Creating a Peaceful Relationship
Breeze & Gandalf Situation Gandalf, a male Russian blue, had been with Leslie since he was eight weeks old. Breeze was a feral Maine coon cat. His story, "Living with FIV" as published in Whole Cat Journal in October 2000, appears in the Articles section of this Web site. After six months of caring for Breeze, he and Leslie had developed a deep bond. Sensing that it was time for Breeze to join the rest of the family Leslie began preparations. At that time Leslie shared her home with three cats, Gandalf, Breeze, and Starwalker, a female calico. |

| Behavior
Gandalf and Starwalker were friendly, trusting, domestic cats. While Breeze had the abilities and demeanor of one of Genghis Khan's well-seasoned Mongol warriors, he was quite capable of becoming a bully. However, Breeze had never known the pleasures and joys of having a close relationship with another of his own species. Assessment In preparation for having Breeze join the rest of the household Leslie did a series of healing and communication sessions. First, each cat's individual worries and concerns were revealed and addressed. Next, Leslie's energetic healing work set in place a field of intention. The intention being established and nurtured was peaceful and thoughtful kitty relationships in our home. Leslie's work consciously focused Divinely guided healing energy on this desired outcome. As the preparations for Breeze joining the rest of the household progressed Leslie began talking with all her critter kids. Her unique way of talking with animals involves techniques that anyone can learn. Using carefully chosen words, Leslie painted clear verbal pictures describing what would change and how she envisioned everyone would act during Breeze's integration process. This visualization process supported the healing work that had already been done in preparation for this experience. To help support the positive outcome of this transition everyone took flower essences. Result The first day of Breeze's integration process there were two extremely loud screaming sessions between Breeze and Gandalf. After that, trust grew quickly between all the kitties as friendships fell into place and bonds formed. After having lived with Leslie for nearly six years, Breeze had developed caring and sensitive relationships with both human and animal family members alike. Friends who had witnessed his metamorphosis from wild beast to complaisant lap cat were inspired and impressed by his capacity for personal growth and self-transformation. |
